Chapter Fifteen Southern Jasper
Although a considerable amount of time has passed since our last episode, if you thought Sobek and Anubis had vanished from this tale of
croissants, dear reader, then you are forgiven yet still mistaken in that assumption. Those two twin souls, shackled to the other by an
hypnotic bond which Freud identified as Narcissistic Personality Disorder
(NPD), were planning and plotting with great evil gusto, determined to be
the first explorers to reach the Green Rays of Rennes-le-Gāteau.
That this pair of blackhearts saw each in the other the perfect
reflection of greed, avarice and dishonor, was not surprising. What does shock
the average mind, however, was the degree to which they were both
committed to go in order to wreak their own particular breed on havoc on the
world. Sobek wrote devilish manifestos to Anubis; the Jackal replied with long,
ridiculous laments concerning his own omnipotence and others' lack of sense to acknowledge a master. "I am the premiere astrologer-assassin
in the world," he would declare, "and I shall beat-down all those who
are stupid enough to stand in my way - especially that brat, Olivia
Peyton."
Prince Vlad, amused by Don Juan Carlos' venom, would respond with tirades aimed at Ms. Maddie, aka Estella Themis. Rants such as - The
Imperial and Royal Salamander Court is a closed fraternity of individuals, fronted
by those who trace their ancestry and affiliations back to the ancient
Grail and Salamander families. It is not in any way a joining club or
membership subscription society. Neither is it a commercial, religious,
political or charitable institution, something Ms. Themis did not understand,
peasant that she is. - were common and eagerly received by Astro Anubis.
While Mercury was still spinning retrograde in May of 2002, Miss Olivia
experienced the unpleasantness of being made a fool by someone she had once
trusted, much to her chagrin. The Peyton lass was reminded by a certain international banking firm that she had previously signed for a loan
so that her former friend might trade in his old, unreliable Panhard for a
new motorcar
- a debt of honor which the purported stargazer decided to ignore and foist upon the person whom he
had once turned to for aid.
The despicable Jackal wished to hurt Olivia financially, especially hoping that she and Duke would not be able to travel to
France as a result, yet after Miss O confessed her folly to the good-hearted Domenico, the latter found the funds to keep the creditors at bay.
