"YES...what a sly fox! One of Don Juan Carlos' wives, that hag Monique somebody...I forget her number...anyway, she dragged him incognito - as in full drag - to one of my premieres in Paris. WELL, it was no surprise that he turned every head there, and Miss Monique left in a hissy - she filed for divorce the very next day! Just as well because a man like the Jackal, wanted by Interpol, can't be taking such chances with his freedom."
"I met Monique, and she's such a bore, which rhymes with you-know-what,"
Maddie interjected. "But do tell, what exactly is the Jackal doing on the
cover of this month's Match if he needs to be discreet?"
"Hey, wait a minute, isn't there a Carlos the Jackal in prison already?" Olivia queried.
Lexi grimaced. "It's a conspiracy, honey - they want you to believe that. But that Carlos the other Jackal isn't our Juan Carlos the real Jackal, if you catch my drift."
"Yes, that's it, a conspiracy of jackasses," Olivia observed, distracting herself from the conversation by
glancing at the rest of the genuine Jackal photos. "So, when do I get to meet him, Waffles?"
Both Madeline and Sexy were caught unawares and the combined pause was uncomfortable; finally Lexi answered, "It's not that you're not sophisticated or attractive enough to hold his attention, it's
just that..."
"What Mr. Graham, I mean Sexi, is trying to say is that...you
see...our Don Juan Carlos has a magnetic way about him...it is rumored that his eyes are like those of a wild, hypnotic creature..."
"Yes, a rabid jackalope!" Lexi choked, almost spitting up his wine.
"Yeah, right...so anyway, when do I get to meet Mr. Jackal?" the Peyton girl demanded.
"READ the article, girlfriend...Juan Carlos has just opened a brothel in Les Andelys," Lexi replied. "A house of ill-repute catering to politicians, rock stars, you know...the Big C word...Celebrity..."
All excited by a mention of both the limelight and location, Maddie added, "Les Andelys is where the 17th century esoteric painter Poussin was born! I wonder if Juan Carlos knows that...I bet he came here to find Poussin's long-lost treasure!"
"Sure, that's why they call Mr. Jackass Pussy Poussin," Olivia laughed.
"NOOO...the Jackal has actually endowed many artistic charities, so I
imagine that he IS familiar with Poussin, Ms. Maddie...and he probably choose Les Andelys for
that EXACT reason," Sexi commented, suddenly intrigued by the prospect of dressing the Jackal's ladies in zebra striped corsets.
"My! Look at the time! Too
bad we have to go home soon, this has been so much fun," the librarian observed, really hot to trot to Les Andelys.
"I'm heading to Versailles myself,
to Le Trianon Palace, for a full body-wrap and bikini-waxing," Sexi Lexi revealed with an impish wink.
"No! That's my favorite spa in the world! I was planning to take Miss Olivia there to quit smoking and detoxify. Plus,
there's a certain cedar tree in the garden of the Palace of Versailles
that I'd like to visit..."
"YES...I have a car and driver
waiting outside as we speak..."
The women looked at one other and without a
word passing between them, they both turned and nodded to Lexi, who
beamed with glee, stood and pranced right out the door of the Three Fish to summon his
chauffeur.
But before the enchantresses exited the bistro, Olivia
turned and retrieved the issue of Paris Match containing an image of
a man she was certain was a wolf in jackalope's clothing.
