Madeline approached Juan Carlos with a measured pace while she wondered how to engage the sly operator in conversation. The Jackal smiled to acknowledge her presence, as well as to excuse himself from his soon-to-be-paying guests.
"Hello again Mistress Madeline, I had a feeling I'd be seeing you tonight."
"I know who the liar is, Mr. Jackal. Your prediction was quite...revealing. Siriusly. Am I disturbing you? I'd hate to keep you from your lovely companion."
"Lovely and expensive," the self-confessed procurer laughed with a shrug. "My ladies pay the bills, that's for sure - the rumors are all true, by the way..."
"Why, that's part of the clue...the Sign of the Dove! You get my meaning, right?" Madeline whispered convincingly.
"Why yes...absolutely," replied the Jackal, although he had no idea what the sign meant at all.
"I can dig it," Ms. Maddie near giggled, certain the jackass was falling into her trap. "And prove it."
"Really? How intriguing...enlighten me...so few understand the mystery, as you yourself know."
"Only if you promise to help me find Olivia later tonight. Do I have your word? I mean, revealing the cache spot of a treasure of this magnitude demands some guarantee of reward...you are a shrewd businessman, you understand," Maddie purred.
"I love treasures," Juan Carlos grinned, one gold tooth very visible whenever speaking of monetary matters. "Of course, my ladies are a priceless cache, too...however, your spirit of adventure entices me to hear more."
"Allow me access to your laptop - you have one, I assume - where I might log into my Cybersybil email, send you a very important encoded message I once received from a highly placed Adept - then you may go into your own Jackal Mail and read what I have forwarded. Fair enough?"
"Most spoffish!" Juan Carlos replied in a mock British tone, intent on impressing Ms. Madeline, who was beginning to look very attractive in his beady eyes.
